gangway
2004

Allowing a narrow walkway on the roof of the Kunstfabrik, twenty white flags are placed. The walkway runs parallel to the adjacent Spree River. The flags were placed so that they obstruct the walkway when the wind is blowing, though one can still walk trough.

The Kunstfabrik am Flutgraben used to lie directly on the border between East and West Berlin. From 1961-89, East German soldiers patrolled this border area, and observed the people who worked in the restricted area.
